I'm often unsure what I'm making until it's made and I step back.
"Deejay Hit That Button or, Hit That Perfect Beat" is meant to summon the post-disco culture of the 1980s – not necessarily textbook-definition disco, a '70s phenomenon, but its lingering aftermath, which to me is inextricably tangled up with queer subculture. It has a distinctly gay vibe that encompasses music, dance, fashion, art, décor, and yes, sex. I romanticize it shamelessly.
