PRIDE: Legends, Life and Love Ana' Alu - Moon and Back... Breakup... Why
acrylic 30x40 $1500
The diptych work, Moon and Back ... BreakUp...Why, represents a moment in a relationship between an LGBTQ couple. A core intent in developing the piece is nonverbal meaning deliverable via art without the assistance of eye to eye communication (thus no painted eyes). The subject body positioning assists the viewer's perception of the piece.
The couple shared life as a couple for a period of time. But as in many relationships love (or fondness) wanes more often from on relationship partner. As depicted in Moon and Back one partner (left panel) has verbally delivered her wish to end the relationship. She sits defensive and stoically as her partner (right) anguishes in assimilating the words she just heard. She asks: "WHY".
The left panel partner is off (now) in another relational universe as depicted by the looming Moon (which glows in total darkness). The right panel partner is depicted with the universal Yin Yang symbol widely interpreted as "there is a point of cohesiveness in all things even when there is the appearance of non- cohesiveness."
The piece represents an aspect of love and relationships we don't relish or often don't welcome.
But, the reality is as depicted...one partner wants out.
